Launching Educare Springfield Program

Educare Springfield, the first Educare school in Massachusetts, serves young children and their families with a full-day, year-round program. The school will be a landmark lab school for best practices and an essential resource for Springfield College, Springfield Technical Community College, Springfield Public Schools, and the early education community across the state for training and providing professional development for future teachers, social workers, evaluation and research. Educare Springfield will also pursue opportunities for partnerships and collaborations in the local community.

HCS Head Start, Inc. was awarded a $1,000,000 Early Education and Care and Out of School Time capital improvement grant for an Educare Springfield project. These grants are financed through the state’s capital budget and provide matching funds that leverage private investment. The EEOST Capital Fund Grant program provides awards of up to $1 million to EEC-licensed large group early education and out-of-school time programs for major capital building projects. On August 15, 2018, Governor Charlie Baker presented the grant awards to the 4 recipients, including HCS Head Start at a reception held in Boston, Massachusetts.

HCS Head Start, Inc. in collaboration with the Irene E. and George A. Davis Foundation, and Springfield College worked on this exciting opportunity for Springfield. The unique collaboration brings a state of the art nationally recognized high quality early care and education facility and program to serve Springfield’s children from birth to five years old. Educare is an innovative research-based partnership between public and private sectors to create more effective early childhood learning and care practices to benefit our children.
